A country struggling for democracy while experiencing a civil war, killer bees taking over docile bee colonies, and a newly-wed young woman. What do they have in common? None of these were on a path exactly of their own choosing, but all three were adapting and finding the best way with the help of those around them. This memoir twists the themes of survival and steadfast optimism during troubled times together with reflections on culture and belonging in Guatemala during the transition from dictatorship to democracy.
